The harbour city is gearing up to hosting the 50th Annual World Champion Bathtub Race which is part of the Nanaimo Marine Festival Thursday, July 21st – Sunday, July 24th.
The race is certainly the main event, where more than 200 “tubbers” will hop into their unique rafts to complete the 36 mile course that takes them all the way to Vancouver’s Fisherman’s Cove, ending back in Nanaimo at Swy-a-lana Lagoon. The race takes place on Sunday, July 24th from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.
While much of the excitement takes place on race day, the Nanaimo Marine Festival has tons of family fun to offer. On Friday July 22nd you’ll find live music at Maffeo Sutton Park, along with a street fair downtown Nanaimo on both Friday & Saturday from 11:30 am – 9:00 pm. You’ll find lots of kids entertainment at the Diana Krall Plaza, and even a Parade on Saturday, July 23rd at 10:30.
On Saturday & Sunday there’ll also be live music on the main stage of Maffeo Sutton Park starting at 11:00 am. There you will also find the adult only beer gardens and on Saturday Evening at 10:00 pm the night will go out with a bang with Quality Foods Festival of Lights Fireworks.
